The short film Ameryka from young Polish director Aleksandra TERPIŃSKA has been selected for the European competition of the 22nd edition of the Leuven International Short Film Festival. The film will be screened on 9 December at 19:45 in the presence of the director.

Ameryka (30 min - Poland - OV ENG subs)
Anka and Dżastina are two friends who escape from the monotony of their lives by dancing, dreaming and dyeing their hair crazy colours. On the lookout for adventure, they decide to go hitch-hiking and are picked up by a lorry driver. Their trip will put their long friendship to the test...

Aleksandra TERPIŃSKA

This Warsaw-based director writes and shoots short films, advertisements and video clips. The holder of a degree in film directing (University of Silesia in Katowice) and  psychology (University of Wroclaw), she has already filmed three shorts: ChickenAll Souls' Day and Ameryka, as well as a documentary, Czech Swan

Her films have featured in festivals and have received 16 prizes, including the Golden Horseman of the Youth Jury at the Dresden Festival, the Best Short Film at the Sehsüchte International Student Film Festival in Potsdam, the Golden Tadpole at the Camerimage IFF, the Early Bird Grand Award in Bulgaria and the Flaming Faun at the Shnit International Short Film Festival.

Her previous film, All Souls' Day, has been screened at almost 100 festivals, notably in San Sebastian, Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Edinburgh and Clermont-Ferrand. The film has also received 16 prizes, including the Grand Prize at the Drama Short Film Festival, the Best Short Film at the Cottbus Film Festival and the Mastershot Award at the Camerimage IFF.
