‘Manon Lescaut’ in a production by Mariusz Treliński

La Monnaie-De Munt, Royal Opera House (Brussels)
24/01/13 - 08/02/13

The man behind La Monnaie’s first production of 2013 is Mariusz Treliński. The artistic director of the Teatr Wielki, Warsaw’s national opera, is one of the most high profile artistic personalities working in Poland today, thanks in particular to the success of his Madame Butterfly (1999) and his Król Roger (2000).
For his first foray into working at La Monnaie, he is taking on a new production of Manon Lescaut which you can see from 24 January until 8 February in the large Brussels concert hall. Treliński’s interest for Giacomo Puccini goes back more than a decade: indeed, he has put on Madame Butterfly at the Teatr Wielki, as we have already mentioned, but also La Bohême (2006) and Turandot (2010/2011), to both public and critical acclaim.
His passion for Puccini is something he has in common with the Italian conductor Carlo Rizzi, who is returning to the helm of the La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra with a repertoire he has made very much his own.
