Arte dei Suonatori at the Orient Express/MAfestival in Bruges
St-Jacob's Church
12/08/10
In 1735, the premiere of the opera-ballet Les Indes Galantes by Jean-Philippe Rameau was held in Paris. The work was an unprecedented success, as it satisfied the public’s appetite for a touch of exoticism. Rameau and his librettist Fuzelier showed the Oriental and Indian worlds in a series of acts: Turkey, Iran, Peru and North America. XVIIIth century Europe, torn asunder by several wars, took note of these cultures, where love conquered war. The Polish baroque orchestra ‘Arte dei Suonatori’ will perform extracts based on this captivating ballet music.
