Chopin 200 / Chopin Memorial Festival

Maasmechelen
27/02/10 - 01/03/10
Chopin 200 Memorial Festival Chopin 200 Memorial Festival
Chopin 200 is a three-day festival. It will bring an end to a project conducted by the Cultureel Centrum Maasmechelen in collaboration with the Chopin Associatie Vlaanderen during which the entirety of Fryderyk Chopin’s pieces for piano was performed. The project began on 16 October 2004 with a recital by the Polish pianist Piotr Paleczny and continued for six seasons in an intensive voyage through all of Chopin’s work for keyboard, with two concerts held per year. The Chopin Memorial Festival tells the story of a composer, the harmony and the discord, taking in all the composer’s qualities: the patriot who composed his polonaises and mazurkas, the virtuoso with his studies and his scherzos, the Romantic with his nocturnes and his fantasias. The project also shows a Chopin who was the very essence of classicism in his sonatas, variations and rondos. Two magnificent piano concerts performed on the day of his birth will form the symbolic climax of the project.
