POLISH DAYS IN FLANDERS

70th birthday of the liberation of Flanders

GHENT
05/09/14 - 21/09/14

(Town liberated on 6 September 1944)

It’s impossible to talk about relations between Poland and Flanders without thinking of the First Armoured Division which, exactly seventy years ago, under the command of General Stanisław Maczek, delivered the north of Belgium from the Nazis. From Ypres to Roeselare, Ghent to Saint-Nicolas, Lommel and Maldegem, Aalter, Beveren and Ruiselede, Polish soldiers were at the allied armies’ outposts and sometimes made the ultimate sacrifice so that the flag of freedom could once again be raised over Flanders.
In order to commemorate these events, we are helping to organise the Polish Days In Flanders throughout September 2014..
